A GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN TO GIVE THANKS AND SUPPORT LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR UVA HEALTH'S DOCTORS, NURSES, AND STAFF
We are supporting this campaign to show our immense gratitude for our healthcare professionals who are also our friends, family, and neighbors. Please consider joining us.
As we gather this week to celebrate with family and friends, many of our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff will be missing from our dining room tables as they selflessly serve those in need of their care.
Each of them chose to enter the medical profession well aware of the sacrifices required of them and the demanding schedules. They chose to work at a teaching hospital to help train the next generation and carry on the legacies of their mentors. But they didn’t sign up for having to fight against unethical leadership.
And it never occurred to them that their Board of Visitors and Attorney General would ask them to take hundreds of their collective hours away from their patients, practices, research, families, and personal time to defend their patients’ safety, the laws governing their jobs, their right to be treated ethically, and the integrity of the University of Virginia.
While UVA’s Board of Visitors will potentially pay millions of dollars to Williams & Connolly, one of the most powerful litigation firms in the world, the UVA Board of Visitors has refused to provide funding so that our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff might have equal protection while voluntarily cooperating with the investigation into the serious allegations in the 9/5/24 No Confidence Letter.
Thankfully, some concerned attorneys have stepped up to represent our doctors pro bono so far in order to protect them in their meetings with Williams & Connolly. Those attorneys have already collectively spent hundreds of hours meeting with, preparing, and joining our doctors in their pursuit of exposing the truth.
But we don’t believe those attorneys should be working pro bono while protecting our doctors as they are questioned by attorneys from one of the most powerful law firms in the world. And we don’t believe our doctors’ attorneys should be working pro bono while spending the hundreds of additional hours it could take to compile a public report from the extensive amount of evidence our doctors have provided to Williams & Connolly that will counteract UVA leadership’s stated intention to keep the results from the public.
To that end, some thankful UVA Health patients started this GoFundMe Campaign to help raise funding for legal representation for our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff and to show them they have the support of their friends, family, neighbors, and patients. Please consider joining us in this effort. A contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year, we are forever indebted to our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their daily contributions to our community and are thankful for each and every one of them.
What is going on at UVA Health?
We are Concerned Citizens of Charlottesville and Patients of UVA Health who are troubled by what we have heard from many UVA Health professionals over the past year.
These professionals are not only our doctors and nurses but also our friends, family and neighbors. We believe our community should value and protect its health care workers who have dedicated their lives to helping UVA patients.
A Parrhesiastes is someone who speaks the truth in a clear and honest way…
It's about the courage to speak one’s mind even when it's difficult or unpopular…to prioritize truth over social niceties or personal gain...
But speaking the truth can be dangerous. A Parrhesiastes understands this risk and is willing to face the consequences, from social disapproval to vindictive employers or even violence...
Because ultimately Parrhesiastes act out of a sense of duty.
They believe speaking the truth is necessary for the greater good and to protect the people and institution they love.
